He's our first behind-the-scenes look at ShiftyLook's exciting new Katamari web-comic! Featuring the brilliant work of Buttersafe's Raynato Castro and Alex Culang, the series focuses on the misadventures of the Prince, having been tasked by his over-bearing father to uncover and stop an alien plot threatening the earth, and potentially the cosmos itself!

It can be said that Katamari perfectly captures the quirkiness of the games with both its look and humor, but we often overlook just how much work goes into creating each strip. Thanks to guys over at Buttersafe, we've been given a unique look at how they put each strip together, from a rough sketch, to its finished product!

Before most artists take the time to lay down their line-art, they'll start with a rough sketch. Here's a look at some of the sketches from Katamari #09 "Competing Cousins"

 

Here, we have the final line art for those same panels, as you can see everything has becomes much cleaner and more details are added. Note that they've also added lines text -- this is done to help determine the placement!

 

And now, the final product. Backgrounds, shadows and colors are added to bring the strip to life, while the text is given bubbles for added clarity!
